Teacher Launch Checklist

Introduction

This checklist is for teachers and classroom support personnel, including teaching assistants, curriculum coaches, and administrators. It outlines steps to take before you begin using the Amplify digital curriculum.

Confirming teacher and device readiness

Complete the following steps in your classroom so you can determine if the school network and your device are configured correctly. Do this several days before you plan to begin using the Amplify digital curriculum to ensure you have time to correct any problems.

Confirm professional development schedule Contact your instructional leader to find out the date and location of your school’s professional development session. [  ]
Obtain Amplify user name and password During the professional development workshop you will be provided with training ID’s to log on to learning.amplify.com/demo

 

If you have already attended your professional development session. Your Amplify permanent teacher account will be available once your school enrollment data is shared with Amplify. You will use your school email address or newly created GAFE accounts provided by your school administrators or IT personnel to log on to learning.amplify.com.

Confirm your teacher device can connect to the Amplify website Using the device (laptop, Chromebook, or iPad) you will use in class:

 

  1. Launch the Amplify digital curriculum from the home screen icon or desktop shortcut, or launch Chrome or Safari and go to learning.amplify.com.
  2. Sign in using your Amplify user name and password.
  3. If you’re unable to sign in or connect to the site, contact your district project lead.

Confirm your name is displayed correctly
  1. Click the menu menu_icon icon to open the Global Navigation.
  2. Confirm your name is displayed correctly. If it isn’t, contact your district project lead as soon as possible.

Verify your sections and student rosters. Teachers new to Amplify can familiarize themselves with their section rosters and fast forward data issues to their school’s technical team and Amplify.

 

We want to make sure your transition to Amplify is as smooth as possible. In order to do so, visit your My Account page. In My Account, teachers can see which class/section is which, make sure that Amplify has the correct list of students for each class/section, and, if not, get help quickly and easily. As a teacher, you can use My Account to do the following:

  • Verify the list of sections you will use with Amplify’s ELA, ELD, or Science curriculums
  • Verify your student roster in each section is correct
  • Customize (if you so choose) the name of your sections to something more familiar at any time
  • This customized name will be visible in every place the section comes up. Thus it will be visible to students

To access the My Account, first log in to your Amplify account by going to my.amplify.com. If you have not been set up with an account yet, visit My Account Management for information on how to get set up.

Confirm that you can access the Amplify digital curriculum materials
  1. Confirm that the course overview screen is displayed. This is the screen where you select a grade level and a unit of study. If you’re not already on the course overview screen, you can get there by clicking the Amplify logo at the top of the screen.
  2. Select a grade level you teach.
  3. Open the first curriculum unit and then the first sub-unit or chapter.
  4. Navigate through the first few lessons and review the prep section, the materials section, and the activities.
  5. Repeat for any other grade levels you teach.

For middle school only: Verify access to the Amplify Library and set a PIN for offline reading
  1. Click the menu menu_icon icon to open the Global Navigation.
  2. Click the Library library_icon icon. Amplify Library opens in a new browser tab.
  3. You will be prompted to set up your offline access PIN for offline reading. Enter a four-digit PIN. Library PIN can only contain lowercase letters and numbers.
  4. Click SUBMIT.
  5. Verify book images show on the screen.
  6. Click a book image.
  7. Confirm you can start reading, download, and add to Favorites.

Confirm that you can access Help and Live Chat
  1. Click the menu menu_icon icon to open the Global Navigation.
  2. For Amplify ELA/ELD curriculum click the Amplify Resources icon in the side panel. For Science curriculum click the Program Guide icon.
  3. Confirm that you can access the online help.
  4. Return to the Lessons tab and click the Amplify Chat icon. 
  5. Confirm that you can access Amplify Chat.

Confirm delivery of student devices and physical materials Conduct an inventory check to make sure the correct number of devices and physical materials (if applicable) has been delivered to your classroom. [  ]
Confirm students know their user names and passwords If applicable, remind your students to bring their user names and passwords to class. [  ]

Confirming student device readiness

On the first day of class with students, complete the steps below to ensure all student devices are configured correctly and students can access the curriculum materials.

Confirm student devices can connect to the Amplify website Instruct students to:

 

  1. Launch the Amplify digital curriculum from the home screen icon or desktop shortcut, or launch Chrome or Safari and go to learning.amplify.com.

If any students are unable to connect to the site or sign in, contact your district project lead.

Confirm student names Instruct students to:

 

  1. Click the menu menu_icon icon to open the Global Navigation.
  2. Confirm your name is displayed correctly.

If any student names are incorrect, contact the district project lead.

Verify student access to the Amplify Library and ability to set a PIN for offline reading Instruct students to:

 

  1. Click the menu menu_icon icon to open the Global Navigation.
  2. Click the Library library_icon icon. Amplify Library opens in a new browser tab.

  4. Click SUBMIT.
  5. Verify book images show on the screen.

Verify student access to Amplify digital curriculum materials Instruct students to:

If any students have problems accessing the Amplify digital curriculum materials, contact the district project lead.

Confirm that the Eyes Up feature works for all students
  1. On your teacher device, open any unit and sub-unit, and then open a lesson.
  2. Click the STUDENT STATUS eye_on_teacher_btn button.
  3. Click the START CLASS button.
  4. Click the EYES UP button
  5. Confirm that all students receive the “Eyes on Teacher” message.

If any students do not receive the “Eyes on Teacher” message, contact the district project lead.
